Samsung recalls Galaxy Note 7 smartphones globally over battery issue
Samsung has announced that it will issue a global recall of Galaxy Note 7 smartphones amid battery issues. The company has released an statement following yesterday’s report about exploding batteries.
Samsung said that it has conducted a thorough investigation and found battery cell issues on Note 7 devices.
The battery in the Note 7 is made by Samsung SDI, its battery arm. The company said that as on September 1, a total of 35 cases have been reportedly globally. Samsung also stated that it has stopped sales of Galaxy Note 7 worldwide. In case of customers who have already bought the Galaxy Note7 devices, Samsung will voluntarily replace them with a new one over the coming weeks.
Samsung said in the issued statement,
We acknowledge the inconvenience this may cause in the market but this is to ensure that Samsung continues to deliver the highest quality products to our customers. We are working closely with our partners to ensure the replacement experience is as convenient and efficient as possible.Samsung will have to replace over one million phones and the halt in sales comes at a time when the device was still being rolled out globally.
